im planning on sending a friend of mine flowers to her while she is work but i dont know what i should write in the card. were not even dating and i dont even know if she likes me. its long distance so im jsut having a local florist do this for me. i just dont know what i should write in teh note without sounding awkward for her. i was thinking aobut just writing "Happy Valentines Day! I miss you! From a close friend." im thinking of not signign my name too. or should i?

What should i write on a valentines day card?
i think u should write that but with u'r name.
Reply:Print out this post. She'll be pleased that you had to ask complete strangers to explain your feelings for her.
Reply:Of course you should sign your name. Otherwise someone else might get the credit for your efforts. Just say, "Hey, I was thinking of you and what better way to let you know, than by this card and the flowers, and what better day to do it, than on Valentines day. Have a good one". It can be as simple as that. Okay? Good luck dude, oh and have a happy Valentines Day, from me. ';-)
Reply:I think your idea is just fine and maybe email / IM her / text her or call her and say so how did you like the flowers? She'll blush for sure!! :)

Should Malaysia ban Valentine's Day celebration?

Saudi Arabia has asked florists and gift shops to remove all red items until after Valentine's Day, calling the celebration of such a holiday a sin, local media reported Monday.

"As Muslims we shouldn't celebrate a non-Muslim celebration, especially this one that encourages immoral relations between unmarried men and women, " Sheikh Khaled Al-Dossari, a scholar in Islamic studies, told the Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper.

Since Malaysia has a majority muslim population, I'm curious why Valentine's Day is so openly celebrated. Your views please.

Should Malaysia ban Valentine's Day celebration?
Valentine's Day been celebrated for decades locally.

Only recent years, it's been too commercialized.

I don't think Valentine's Day should be banned, just because of it's celebration of love (not necessary for couples but also for family, friends %26amp; etc).

Besides Saudi Arabia %26amp; Malaysia have (mostly) totally different style %26amp; government policies. You don't see Malaysian women covered up %26amp; only hanging out with female.

We're multiracial.

Even if Muslims don't celebrate it. Others non-Muslim do celebrate it as well. The Chinese even have their own "Chinese Valentine's Day, whereby they will throw tangerines into the sea/lake/river/longkang to connect to their other half".

While the "eligible bachelors" will try to fish for the tangerines often with message note of name %26amp; contact %26amp; etc. lah.

Besides most S.Arabians - arrange marriage. While Malaysians it's mostly Sendirian Berhad thing. Oh yeah the rate of divorce is increasing %26amp; the rate of marriage isn't improving. It's well known that many Chinese don't get married nowadays %26amp; thus the decrease of offsprings.

While more %26amp; more Indians are marrying late citing unable to find a compatible partner or work.

So Malaysia shouldn't %26amp; wouldn't be so radical as to ban such a simple loving day.

S.Arabia are Muslim country %26amp; gov. thus it's their right to implement such rules for their country %26amp; one have to respect it due to their beliefs.
Reply:Hahahha.. you forgot, love between siblings, friends, parents and spouse.. well yes, as a Muslim, we shud noe it ourself that valentine is not to be celebrated.. there are other ways you could express your love to ur sibling, friends, parents and spouse.. not only on valentine, we shud show ur love everyday!!! I think that if the Jais/Jawi catch all these ppl doing maksiat, we will see no valentines..
Reply:yeah. likewise malaysia has to start banning celebration of 1st january too. it's western, you know? oh and 31st august, it doesnt exist in the islamic calendar, and it came about as a direct result of western influence. maybe we should just die of loneliness in malaysia. period
Reply:i can give you 1 straight answer. it sure burn the pocket out of a guy!!
Reply:Might as well bans Hari Raya Korban.

As they tortured the animals under the hot sun without any water before slaughtering them .

Take a pick.

Reasonable to bans Valentine day or Korban day ?
Reply:the Banning shall be valid on Muslims only
Reply:Alexandr B. What a load of rubbish.
Reply:It should be banned under Malaysian Syariah law as this is a celebration whch leds to maksiat. However,JAKIM should make sure that their oprations does not invlove non-muslim(leave them to the police since they are not restircted to Malaysian syariah law)as this caused controversy long while ago.Anything which bring us to maksiat should be stayed away and valentine's day is one of them.Valentine's Day is so openly celebrated because tthe law is too loose that the muslims(non-muslims might invlove as well)use such celebration to do maksiat.
Reply:Only the rose seller and cocholate makers get the money.. so ban this pointless celebration before we go pokai..
Reply:St Valentine was a philanthropist he gave all that he had to the needy but today It has been taken out of context. Valentine is not just for lover, but it's a time for the family to love each other. Only Taliban mentality cannot perceived the concept of Valentine
Reply:we should go to school and learn back the history of the v days..
Reply:It is a christian practice started by a catholic priest. My opinion is don't let the establishment or anyone else dictate for you what you want to do. You can be devout and still enjoy the practices of other religions. Christians have learned to be more flexible(I am speaking a general sense). I enjoy some of the jewish and muslim traditions. I also love to join the Greek orthodox when they celebrate easter. The ceremony is ornate and the music lovely. I think this a personal choice and you don't have to be unfaithful in order to do it. I hope that helps.

Attached is an article about it. Remember most of us are free to make personal choices.
Reply:Yes we should because it's not our culture and usually maksiat increases during this celebration.
Reply:It's the same as any other day. What matters is 'will you commit sin ?'.
Reply:Don't think so..

While Malaysia is a muslim country, it has got multi-racial community.

Hence, i still believe Valentine day should be celebrated openly.
Reply:Ban this and that and more of it will come. Love is for any living things and dont hate it by ban one of the day of love!
Reply:It has no religious value at all in the modern time. So no need to ban it. For those who have objections, don't celebrate, people who want to celebrate, let them celebrate.

Live and let live please.
Reply:we all are sinners

i don't care what religion

this valentine day is suck to me.
Reply:yeah you are right
Reply:LOVE DOESN'T EXIST.

Is this a good idea? I don't think I'll see her again, but I have a crush on her?

I am on vacation halfway around the world. While here I met this girl who works at the fitness club I frequent, my knowledge or the language here is decent, but certainly not great; therefore I am usually uncomfortable talking with the locals, but with her, I feel really comfortable. I've met her three times here, each time we've talked for at least an hour. I am about to leave for the gym soon, would it be alright if I got a florist to send her flowers while I am at the gym to surprise her? The problem is I am leving in three days and might not see her again; so would it make any sense to even send her flowers? She's said stuff like "not to forget her" etc, but she doesn't have internet, and doesn't speak English at all.....what do you think? flowers or just go to the gym as usual and say bye?

Is this a good idea? I don't think I'll see her again, but I have a crush on her?
Just say bye with nice exchange of words or maybe ask her out to have a coffee or something and tell her that ur leaving in 3 days time so u'd like to spend time with her just before leaving since she became ur good friend. Then prolly u can give her some flowers but any which way if she gets involved with u it'll break her heart or maybe if shez sensible she'd just take it in stride and move on.
Reply:Go for the flowers!

You never know what will happen and it'll brighten her day.
Reply:if you give her flowers and leave ued brek her heart dont give her flowers sorry

How many flowers in a bouqet?

I am getting married in February and have decided I want white roses and white lisianthus for my bouqet (thanks to many of you who helped me with my question : ))

I only have my sister as my maid of honor and thats it, so Im wondering, how many roses/lisianthus do I need for my bouqet, and how many for my sisters? (hers should be a little smaller, right?)

If any of you can tell me a range (20-25? etc) that would be great. I am really considering doing them myself as they are the only two bouqets, and having a local florist do the boutineers and corsages, so I will save some money.

Im going to start calling florists in my area and asking them for a price quote for just the bouts and corsages and then one that includes the bouqets to see what it will cost me, I just thought it would be helpful for me to be able to say " I want a hand-tied bouqet of 15 roses and 10 lisianthus" so that I can get a better quote without having to travel from store to store.

How many flowers in a bouqet?
12 is the average sized bouquet, so i would go with 12.

Reply:11 roses symbolizes [one love in one's lifetime] - read that somewhere but totally forgot where...

Reply:Why dont you make it the equal distribution like ten-ten..it will look nice, if you have small hands then it would be too many to look at as if drowning your pretty small hands..but if your hands are the noraml big ones..then 15-20 of that combination is ok..ohh..what is important is you are going to be a bride..and luckier the one who will catch your bouquet when you throw it...wish I were there to witness this alll.................congratulations....... Best wishes to both of you!!!!!!!And more kids to come................

I used calla lilies for my wedding and had wonderful latex pink tipped callas that were beautiful. I had my boquet, MOH, 2 bridesmaids, 10 bouts, groom's bout, 8 mini corsages, and 4 large corsages with shipping for around $250. The flowers look real!

She's on EBay too, with pricing.

Congrats, and best wishes!!

I'm having a Black and White wedding...?

Hello, I'm getting married on octoboer 11th 2008. And I'm having a black and white wedding, with deep red flowers and need a little bit of advice....

First off I'm having troubles finding a florist in Minnesota...If you know of any that there prices are not to high let me know and also I don't know much about flowers and I'm not sure what kind would look good? Maybe with me having such a eligant wedding color probably stick with roses?

Second off can anyone recomenned me to a cake maker in MN. Does local grocey stores do good (ex. Corborns, Lunds Bylers, Cub?) I've heard they are cheaper.

and lastlley I need some ideals for center pieces.

I'm having a Black and White wedding...?
You could always use the black baccara roses. They are gorgeous deep red roses...although I am pretty sure that the can be a little pricey. Here are a few pics.

A cheaper alternative might be some beautiful red tulips. The gerbera daisies are much more affordable as well. i had my girls carry the gerbera daisies and i carried roses. Ended up saving a lot of money doing it that way...here is a pic of the red gerbera's...i think they are beautiful

As for centerpieces, do you want something black and white, or do you want to incoporate the red into the centerpieces?

Here are a few pictures that should give you some good ideas.

Reply:well black and white can be very sexy yet be hard to do center pieces that go with it. i say go with red roses in a short vace or look for some sleek black and white figures also you can do what i have seen and looks very nice get black and white photos of people that have passed and use them as centerpieces or black and white photos of the two of you threw out the engagement and dating
Reply:have black and white ostritch feathers in a vase..it makes for a stylish and diffrent look to flowers. these feathers are very long and fluffy, i would have a black one then a white one next to it and so on till you have enough to make a 'plume' in the vase. Also you could have black and white candle sticks with LCD candles and hang charms from the candle sticks.
Reply:That's my date too!!!!! Oddly enough our colors are black and white! For our centerpieces we are doing small vases with red stones and a white candle in them with a small thin black ribbon wrapped around the mouth of the vase.

I can't help much with the florist or the cake, but I can give you any other advice for a black and white wedding on that date! Just e-mail me if you want!

Congrats!
Reply:You may checkout the wedding cakes from these websites. I think the wedding cake designer you mentioned may be listed in those sites. You may also get ideas of your wedding cakes by browsing through lots of wedding cakes pictures.

Reply:Sounds lovely, unfortunately I am in the uk, so can't help with flowers or cake, how about flowers in the centre of the tables, to match yours,or little bowls of chocolates etc, Have a wonderful day,
Reply:don't forget to have the photographer shoot everything in black and white too.. :D
Reply:i had a ivory dress and my bridesmaids had charcoal dresses its was stunning
Reply:"Does local grocey stores do good"??? Huh?
Reply:Congratulations

Not knowing which part of MN you are looking in try the vendor links below, hopefully they will help. Most bakeries even the local grocery stores will allow you a small sample. Do a taste test and price checking for the size you need to feed the number of guests. You can also find vendors below for your flowers. They will have photos from past clients to show you for ideas, you can mix ideas up. There are a lot of good suggestions already listed on here for center pieces and color ideas. Go to google and type in your city the item you are looking for and then start calling asking questions and visiting with those that have made a good impression.

Best of Luck
Reply:I think that red with black and white is over powering, you may need to add a softer colour or sofen up the whole image;

perhaps introduce a third colour? (but you the bride can get away with the all red bouquet)

What are my chances of getting into a semi-selective college?

My grades were decent freshman year, perfect (4.0 gpa, 4.2 weighted) sophomore year, but so far this semester has been really hard for me; I still have to take my exams but I think I will end up with 3 A's, 2 B-'s and possibly one C+ or B-. Ive had some personal issues but I think I can do much better next semester. my gpa is 3.7.I'm in marching band, color guard, yearbook, and I have a really great job as a florist. I plan on taking more extracurriculars and possibly tutoring, and will probably get into NHS at my school. I am also going to volunteer this summer and take a few design/architecture classes at our local college. I want to major in Landscape Architecture in college, and the most selective schools I will apply to are probably UVa, Illinois Urbana-Champlain, and UW Madison. What are my chances of getting in to any given school, mainly the ones mentioned, even with an iffy start to my junior year? (p.s.- havent taken ACT's yet but I took a practice test and am aiming for a 28

What are my chances of getting into a semi-selective college?
A 4.0/4.2 GPA is not decent, it's great.

Anyway, I'd say even though your grades went down, you still will almost definitely get into UofI, you have a very good shot at Madison, and Virginia is a possibility. You should try to do really well on your ACT--try for a little better than a 28. Not that that is bad at all, but that is on the lower end of the range for Madison and Virginia.

Good luck!
Reply:Colleges only see your final grades; just do better next semester and you'll be fine. The only school out of those that you might have trouble getting into is UVa.

Germany's Biggest Mosque Spurs Fear of `Islamization' of Europe

By Seda Sezer

April 3 (Bloomberg) -- The twin spires of Germany's largest Gothic cathedral will soon be joined on the Cologne skyline by the minarets of the country's biggest mosque.

The $23 million Ehrenfeld Central Mosque, scheduled to be completed in about two years, will help bring Islam out of the back streets and reduce the influence of radicals, Mayor Fritz Schramma says. Others see the building as a symbol of Islamic extremism and further evidence that Cologne's 120,000 Muslims, more than half of them Turkish immigrants, refuse to integrate.

``I pray at the little chapel next to the Cologne Cathedral, and my prayer doesn't become more valuable if I pray in the big cathedral,'' said Laszlu Reischl, 56, a taxi driver. ``I don't understand why they insist on building a big mosque.''

The controversy reflects Germany's struggle over almost five decades to incorporate its largest ethnic minority. Tensions were revived in February when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Turks at a Cologne rally that ``assimilation is a crime against humanity.'' Some lawmakers who oppose mostly Muslim Turkey's bid to join the European Union accused him of preaching Turkish nationalism on German soil.

Cologne has Germany's highest concentration of Muslims, at 12 percent of the population. The new mosque will be built in the immigrant district of Ehrenfeld, about two miles from the 13th- century Cologne Cathedral.

The 53,800-square-foot building will fit 1,200 worshippers. It will replace a converted pharmaceutical warehouse that has housed the mosque since 1984 and holds about half as many people. Many spill into the parking lot during Friday prayers.

Permanently Here

``When our fathers came here, they rented the least expensive place to pray,'' says Mehmet Gunet, legal adviser to the Cologne-based Turkish Islamic Union for Religious Affairs. ``We are permanently here and we want more beautiful prayer houses.''

German architect Paul Boehm, who has worked on local churches, won a contest to design the mosque. The building consists of curved concrete walls connected to a central dome by glass to convey openness and transparency.

The two 55-meter (180 feet) minarets will be about a third as high as the cathedral spires. The complex will also house offices, restaurants and shops.

``We want to show that Muslims can live in peace in a society,'' Gunet says. ``We are coming out of hidden places and saying, `We are here, you can come and look in.'''

`Parallel Society'

The Islamic Union, a group of Imams and theologians appointed by the Turkish government's Religious Affairs authority, is awaiting final planning approval and expects construction to begin in June.

Opposition to the mosque has been spearheaded by the Pro Cologne citizens initiative, which holds five seats in the town parliament. Over the past two years, the group has circulated petitions and leaflets and held rallies against the project.

The mosque will allow local Turks to slip further into a ``parallel society,'' where many don't even speak German, says Manfred Rouhs, a Pro Cologne representative.

``It's a symbol of Islamization in Europe and the failure of integration,'' Rouhs says. ``It's a danger to our European way of living.''

About 60 percent of Cologne residents oppose a large mosque with minarets, according to a July survey by Koelner Stadt- Anzeiger, the city's biggest newspaper.

Headscarf Hairdresser

Turks first came to Germany in the 1960s, when they were invited in to help ease a postwar labor shortage. There are about 3 million ethnic Turks in Germany today.

On Ehrenfeld's main shopping street, some Turkish stores offer special services, such as the hairdresser with private rooms for women with headscarves. A barber provides Turkish tea fresh from the samovar, an urn traditionally used to heat water.

Uneasiness about the mosque reflects Germany's ``Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia,'' says Mehmet Yildirim, general secretary of the Islamic Union.

``This society didn't have much of a relationship with different cultures and religions in the past, and they have prejudices and worries,'' Yildirim says.

Mayor Schramma says the mosque will help build trust and public acceptance of Islam.

``What Erdogan meant was assimilation by force, and we don't have that here in Germany,'' he says. ``We want to end the separation, but it must not come from the top down.''

Speak German

The Islamic Union has been open to negotiation, agreeing to reduce the size of the prayer area, to conduct the prayer call through indoor speakers, and to offer half of the shops to German business owners, Schramma says.

``The next step is that the language in the mosque in time will be German,'' the mayor says. ``The second- and third- generation, which were born here, should be ready to accept that as their mother language.''

Claus Moskopp, 52, an Ehrenfeld florist, points out that the minarets won't even be as high as the nearby 243-meter Deutsche Telekom AG tower.

``We had this mosque here as it is for a long time and no one said anything, but minarets bother people,'' he says. ``It doesn't bother me because the minarets will match the city landscape.''

Islam will win godless West without war or bombs, first Muslim son Obama in USA, then mosques in Europe?true?
The greatest fear the radical Islamists should have regarding their cause, is the day the good old boys in the US of A decide to play cowboys and radicals.

Yahoo SA answers Soap Opera?

Further to Styvies question earlier, if YAHOO SA ANSWERS were a soap opera on TV what would the theme tume be? What roles would the character's take?

I can see Cakes as a kindly lady with a petisserie and Cheri as the florist next door. Alf a spirited school teacher, Ayiza a controversial "beatnik" type street artist. Heavy D, the butcher with the best boerewors in town, Styvies an entrepreneur with Mars Attack. I can see Alf and Bull propping up the local bar and getting into rows with people whereupon landladies Inno and Unathi put them back in their place. Porgie and Tsepo strike me as the local cops etc etc As for me.... he he he............ that's up to someone else I suppose.

and my character must frequent Cakes' pasterie, otherwise I need an increase. Vango could be a second hand car sales person, with him at least there would be honesty. MJ will be a struggling reggae musician, trying to make an impression in the industry and Alfie will be his manager. During his rounds to sell his artist, Alfie meets this newspaper critic called Bull and after sharing some whisky they decide to put pressure on the SABC to play local talent more. That's where Ayiza comes in. His buddies from the Eastern Cape fill the corridors of power at SABC. They agree but advise that MJ must be taken on national tour and the preferred company to do that is co-owned by zxcv and Tsepo, who connections are high at SA Miller. and the first stop will be in Pretoria where Blue Bull is the Stadium manager.....the story continues...^^(((%26lt;*%26gt;)))^^

Flowers not delivered by FTD on Valentine's Day?

A week ago I ordered flowers from a local FTD shop and on Feb.15 I get an email saying that "at this time we do not have a florist available in your recipient's delivery area who can deliver your product on 2/14." Can you believe that? She lives in the middle of MANHATTAN!! Don't tell me there are NO florists or deliveries in Manhattan!

This is just unacceptable, and on an occasion like this guys have to hang their head in shame because FTD could NOT do their job. This is the ONE day that makes FTD what it is...and they don't deliver.

I'm wondering how often does this happen where FTD can't deliver on Valentine's Day - let me know if you didn't get your FTD flower delivery, as scheduled, on Valentine's Day.

Flowers not delivered by FTD on Valentine's Day?
On Valentines Day, I learned a long time ago to contact the florist directly. When they price is given I include a good tip ahead of time. Remember that tip is To Insure Promptness. As for FTD make sure you stop payment with your credit card company. File a complaint if you can. Then to do damage control with your sweetheart, print out the email and give it to her with flowers that you bring her yourself. When she looks up from reading it, tell her that you were foolish to have trusted anyone else with a message from your heart.
Reply:that sucks. i live in florida and my boyfriend ordered me flowers and they STILL havent been delivered! I have to go pick them up myself NEVER going to have them ordered by FTD again!
Reply:I think what happens was as they were getting paid more fo the flowers in the days of valentines they cancelled the previous orders, and sold it for more.

Well you cant really do much now, you will get the money back or an apology but nothing more, how about you handpick some flowers, from garden, dont have to be roses or very nice, anything that is cute, make a bouquet type thing and give it to her now, she will appreciate it and love you more.
Reply:That's too bad. Please I live in NJ %26amp; FTD is worldwide. Hope your valentine forgave you.
