Birthday Party?

Mrs. B, a school teacher, was turning 31. Her students all decided to throw her a party.

"What a great party!" she says.

Then it was time to give her her presents.

Mary, the daughter of the local candy shop owner, gives her a box.

"You'll never guess what it is!" she said.

"Hmm," says Mrs. B "Candy?"

"Yes! How did you guess?" she said.

Ricky, the florist's son, gave her a box.

"You'll never guess what it is!" he said.

"Hmm," says Mrs. B "Flowers?"

"Yes! How did you guess?" he said.

It went on like this for a while.

Timmy, the son of the owner of the liquor shop, gave her a box. It had a yellow liquid dripping off a corner.

"You'll never guess what it is!" he said.

Mrs. B tasted a tiny drop of liquid.

"Hmm," says Mrs. B "Beer?"

"No," he said.

Once again, Mrs. B tasted a tiny drop of liquid.

"Wine?" she asked.

"Noo," he said.

Mrs. B tasted another tiny drop of liquid.

"Champagne?" she asked.

"Nooo! It's a puppy!" he said.

Birthday Party?

behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much.

The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser

Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

One of them went to a family in Egypt and was named

went back and begged the friars to close. They

ignored him. He asked his mother to go and ask the

friars to get out of business. They ignored her too.

So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the

them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed

their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close

their shop. Terrified, they did so - thereby proving

that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

Cold calling to sell roses!?

Will it work?? I know its a difficult question as it deponds on way too many sectore not only one, But i went around my local area, and with the price im charging the florists were very keen they advised myself to basically carry out rounds...which means driving and cold calling and they would buy if they running low on stock??

Is it me or is she having me on?

Cold calling to sell roses!?
If you can beat the wholesale prices currently charged, along with instant 'on demand' delivery, I'm sure many Florists would be interested

By all means cold call all those in your local area and make sure your leave price lists, your mobile phone number and a 'instant delivery' promise.

Due to costs, it's doubtful if your should continue to visit them all on a regular basis - however it's a good idea to 'drop in' on those you pass after a delivery .. this helps build up a relationship and confirm in their minds that you are 'always available' to do a delivery
Reply:Cold calling to sell Roses, or any other product is not advice able at all. Due to unproductive call, you will be increasing your over heads, i.e., selling cost or reduced profit. You are required to have a fair, straight, and simple, trade policy, engaged uniformly with your each retailer.

How did a guy I met through an internet dating site find me I never gave him the town I was living in?

I met an guy over 1 year ago through a dating site, we have been emailing one another for about 10 months. I never told him the true city I live in, but the true stat and I Never told him my real name !. He lives in Tulsa Oklahoma. Also when we met on the dating site my picture was posted and his wasn't but I enjoyed talking to him and he promise to send a picture , he never has, but says soon, (right). We have never talked on the phone and I made sure not to disclose any personal information, but I did tell him a few times I go walking on the seawall and I live near Houston. Well, today is my birthday ( never told borth year) and I receive an email from him, that I have flowers waiting for me at a local flower shop and he says he hopes I live in or near that city. Yes I can the florist and the flowers and gifts are there. Should I be afraid , during the couse of us emailing he seem to be ok...but now I'm worried . How did he find me with such little information

How did a guy I met through an internet dating site find me I never gave him the town I was living in?
"go walking on the seawall and I live near Houston."

How many bodies of water are really anywhere near Houston?

Probably just deduction, hopefully he isn't a stalker and just a harmless guy with a sincere crush on you.
Reply:You should be glad he is not an idiot and he was able to put 2 and 2 together and pick a near by shop based on the fact that you live near Houston and take walks on the seawall. also you said that he said that he hopes you live near that shop which means that he was just making an educated guess. you don't have anything to worry about unless he shows up at your house, but then it will be too late.
Reply:that is scary...could he have gotten from the dating website some kind of way?
Reply:you'd be surprised what you can accomplish on the internet nowadays. For about ten bucks, I can find you by your last name and first name, and the process of elimination.
Reply:Honestly it isn't very hard to find out, there are way to many ways to list.

What you should hope for is that he was actually paying attention to the things you said and pieced it together over time through various little things you said (possible since you have been talking for so long), as opposed to going searching for you on the internet (Creepy)

All in all, if he sent flowers on your birthday to a local flower shop, I would assume that hes not an insane stalker, (Aka 10 months of talking should let you know of what his personality is like) and just likes you and was trying to surprise you.

I do not know your personal history or the things you said, but do not be to quick to freak out ;). I would suggest that you just ask him, and odds are he will tell you what it was you said that he remembered.
Reply:There are places on the internet where you can type in some info and it will show you some things that can help with a search!

In your case, i think you should not converse with this person any more, change your e-mail address, tell your parents about it, and do not go to meet him!

Haven't you been watching that program on TV, where the TV program has a fake young girl who contacts some guy, then he is invited to a certain address, When he shows up, with sex toys, and other things, he's arrested and charged! there are all types of crackpots out there preying on young girls, with just the method that guy used to find you!

Beware--beware--tell your folks, don't fall for his wiles!

Those types of people use e-mail and the internet to further their games, so don't go to pick up the flowers, because he'll know to further his search, and might even find your home, and all he'll have to do is watch and wait, until you're home alone, then he'll swoop in, and you won't be able to defend yerself,!

He might even have told the flower shop to call him when you go to pick up the flowers, and they may have called him when you called to inquire if they were there1 See how easy it is, if ya aren't very careful??

HTH: James H.
Reply:tell the police :-(
Reply:May be he is guessing. He wants to see your reaction.
Reply:If your phone number (the one he has) is listed in a directory, you can do a reverse search on the number and find who it is and what their address is. And it's perfectly legal because it's public information (from a phone book).
Reply:Do NOT meet him before he sends a photo.

I had a coworker who was meeting women online through E-Harmony and only telling them he was "fat."

True indeed.

He weighed a good 450-plus and bathed rarely.

Overweight isn't the only problem someone could present, but people should like the looks of their potential mates/dates.

Take your photo down and don't show it to any guys who have not ostensibly shown you theirs first. And don't lie any more.
Reply:Do you have any personal information on your email? If it was your personal email acct you used to email him, it could have come with your name on it. He didn't just pull the information out of the air. The dating site won't devulge any information so it's not them. I would be worried too, have you thought about asking him where he got the information? Or you could just say that you never received the flowers %26amp; gift, that way he won't be sure he has the right address.
Reply:Baby, If he hasn't done anything by now, chances r he won't, its been 2 long 4 that and he would of already made his move if he really wanted 2 rape or even kill u, don't u think. Chill out baby, if he waited this long chances r, hes doing it because he cares and respects u, otherwise he wouldn't of waited this long.
Reply:He took a good guess you overly paranoid freak.

Probably pulled up google earth. Punched in Houston, and then looked for seawall areas. And kept his fingers crossed and guessed.

How bout, you've been talking to him for 10 months, call him on the phone for crying out loud and thank him profusely for caring enough to even TRY and send you flowers.

Yep, and could have just typed in your last name into the white pages and kept his fingers crossed. which is why he picked one out and said he hoped.
Reply:Well if you have your town posed anywhere else then im sure it would be pretty easy. People can do anything nowadays.
Reply:Don't let him know he got the city right for one. And if it's been 10 months and he won't send you a picture.....drop him...He's hiding for a reason. I don't know how he found you but someone I was talking to did something similar and I stopped talking to him. If you want him to know where you live you'd tell him. I would not talk to him anymore. If you are underage, tell you parents. It's better to admit to a mistake then not and end up dead.
Reply:it might be pure coninsidence. he may have remembered u saying u lived near houston and he decided to send to flowers to a shop there, hoping it would be close enough for you to pick them up. he doesnt know your house address so obviously he didnt do tht much investigating, if he had figured that out, then you should worry. so jst relax, this may jst be a nice guy who wanted to give you a happy birthday surprise. dont take it the wrong way
Reply:You need to tell someone like the authorities.Perverts can find someone by a simple screen name.If i was you i would call the cops. Block the person i don't care if you know him online well. people lie!

Florists won't deliever on Sundays?

Why is it so difficult to find a florist that does Mother's Day delivery?

My mom is a nurse and works on Sundays - I'd like to have her some flowers sent but nooooooo.... "We don't deliver on Sundays!," is all I keep getting. I even tried 1-800-Flowers and they said their local shops in that area wouldn't deliver on Sundays.

Good grief.. I'm so frustrated. Any ideas?

Florists won't deliever on Sundays?
Is there a floral shop in the hospital she works at. They are probably open on Sunday and since they are in the same building, would probably bring them to her.
Reply:My daughters both work for florists, and they have been busy since yesterday at dawn doing the mother's day deliveries. If it's important to you that it's delivered to her on Sunday, could you maybe find a friend or someone you know in the area to drop it off at the hospital?

If you call 1-800 flowers, they are just going to call a local florist, a lot of people don't understand that. My daughters were delivering valentine bouquets for 2 or 3 days after Feb 14 which were orders from 1-800 Flowers. I'm sure it will be the same for mothers day.
Reply:get them delivered today.........

there are 50 million Mothers who all expect flowers tomorrow................get a jump on them,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Is this a good idea for a business? Be Honest.?

I am really into making Cards and cakes. My fiance's sister is a trained florist too. I would like to set up a business in my local area in which you can get everything, all your cards, birthday cakes ect, balloons and flowers. Would this be a good idea for a buisness, is it a good idea to turn my hobby into my dream? I would also like to keep my weekend job would that be possible, I just work in a shop.

Is this a good idea for a business? Be Honest.?
That would definately be possible and sounds like a great idea. Just have someone run the shop for you or have one day off (on the weekend). You will have to invest in it, but if it becomes a great business, then you will get all the money back and more.
Reply:That is a really good idea.
Reply:I think its great as it is convenient. You can get all your special occasion stuff from one place. You should come up with whole package plans etc etc. Its a great idea. Good Luck dear!
Reply:Hi,cards and cakes are good,however your client base will be limited.Here is something you should consider.Health and wellness is a HUGE market since everybody wants to be healthy.You need to affiliate with a financially strong company that has unique nutritional products that people will buy and use.Their re-order rate is 80%.A company with a generous pay plan that does not require a genius to figure it out.Free web sites to market the products.Details can be found at www.dna911.info
Reply:Sounds good! If it's something you enjoy, then go for it!
Reply:It does sound like a really good idea and if you're good at it and enjoy it, it's perfect.

The only thing you might want to consider is doing one thing at a time. Why not start out with say, the florists on it's own, give it time and see if there is a demand for it and gradually bring in the other elements. If you try and do everything at once, you might make money from one thing and loose a shedload on everything else. I think it would also be confusing for customers, how would you advertise yourself for example? If you advertise yourself as a cake shop, card shop and florists all in one, you may not be able to cater for a particular customer group, which may drive custom away.

I would start out with one idea, make it successful, clearly define what you are doing, and then try and bring in other bits slowly over time. Good luck with it anyway.
Reply:go for it you can do anything if you want it enough
Reply:Sounds like a goer to me, you go for it!
Reply:That does sound like a great idea it would be nice to get everything in one place! Saves a lot of time for the customer plus it would be probably be cheaper to buy it all in one place too.
Reply:I would say that you have to believe that it is a good idea for it to succeed, the most important thing is to research your area, find out if there is a need for what you want to offer in your area, work out a business plan. As to keeping your job on, probably to start off with as a back up,but when the business takes off, as I am sure it will you will not have time. Good Luck.
Reply:Be careful with your decision. Think about who your competition would be? How many similar services are there in your area? The big supermarkets are increasingly monopolising...well everything it seems and some people would pick up all the things you're thinking of selling while they do their grocery shopping. Also bear in mind that, initially, you may not be able to take salaries from your business' takings until you are more established. Sorry to be negative, just trying to add some balance to your answers.
Reply:That sounds like a good idea to me! I set up in business myself a while ago, through the Princes Trust, if you're under 30 they help fund loads of projects. Its a great idea to turn a hobby into a dream, it means you'll be earning £ for doing something you enjoy - how many people can truely say that?!

The only thing I would say is research your competitors, if there aren't any, thats even better! If there is any, then make sure you offer a better service than they do.

And another mistake alot of people make is to try and undercut the competition - but especially in the market you're thinking of, if people pay more they perceive it as being worth more, think of Sainsburys. Alot of people think its expensive, but the ones that shop there think its better quality due to the price. In all fairness, its no different to Asda though.

Bloody good luck to you though! I would say, wholeheartedly, GO FOR IT!!
Reply:yeah go for it carpe diem they say but be prepared to put in lots of hours and probably quite a lot of investment so give up your weekend job and put 100% into making your business work not lining someone elses pockets good luck
Reply:Yes but I would use market research, primary, so hand out questionnaires in your local area, your place is just as important as prices and promotion. I hope your business becomes very successful, good luck :)
Reply:Hiya it sounds like a great idea but you would have to quit your job or get somebody to work for you at weekends as you would be catering for birthday party's and wedding etc.

P.S Good luck hope you do well with your dream
Reply:yes, i think its cool. its great that you actually enjoy your hobby and turning it into a business would be a good idea.

remember in order to make a profit, make sure that your income (all the money that goes into the business) is greater than your outcome (money that goes out of your business)

you probably only know this since your the one starting the business, but oh what the heck!

btw, good luck

Reply:Many start up businesses fail because they start with the PRODUCT rather than with the CUSTOMER. Your idea sounds good - but you have to find a way to test whether prospective customers would like it. Get yourself a clipboard and write on it (say) five key questions in relation to customer approval of your idea. Then spend a morning in a shopping mall and ask as many people as possible the questions. Test your idea on real people in a real shopping environment. What seems a great idea to you may not gel with real people. And don't forget to have some Price points in your questions. For example "If someone offered you this in a shop [list the deal] what would you be prepared to pay for it. If it was priced at $50 do you think this is (a) Expensive. (b) A fair price (c) Cheap.... you get the idea.

Good Luck!!
Reply:Starting any new business requires a lot of hard work and dedication. You need to be willing to give lots of energy to get this kind of project off the ground.

Do some research in your area, know your local market. What is the competition like?

I really like the concept so why shouldn't you make a successful business out of it.

Good luck!
Reply:sounds good

a sort of supermarket specialising in events
Reply:I would go for it there is a shop locally that does the same sort of thing and they are doing really well

Good Luck hope it all turns out well for you
Reply:Yes I think it is a very good idea and hope you go 4 it and make it a success.
Reply:I think it's a good idea, but it would need a hell of alot of hard hard work to get it going. To start with you probably couldn't employ anyone full time, so it would be mainly you doing it, as well as running the rest of your life.

I'd guess that once you'd had your first few customers, the most important marketing would be word of mouth - everyone at the party would have to know that your business had provided everything, and that also means that everyone there would know about it if anything went wrong or wasn't good.

Basically you'd be a Home Event Co-ordinator. I know someone who started their own events management company, basically providing this kind of thing for business events - it's hard work for less than great profits. As yours would be smaller scale, your profit margin would be less, so you'd have to think about why people would pay you to do something they could easily do themselves? I mean anyone can blow up a few balloons, buy a cake and some cards. What would you offer that would make your service worth paying for?

I think you'd have to kiss goodbye not just to your weekend job, but also to your weekends!
Reply:Sorry, but Tesco, Asda etc already do this. So you would be left with starting an on line business. You would have to drop the cakes if your working from home. Food hygiene certificate etc. Average kitchen would not get one. You could rent space of the Florist owner and sell your cards and balloons, but then you are competing with Clinton's etc. Is a fantastic idea you came up with, but your market is just not there. Also venture capitalist reading this would not support you as you want to keep your weekend job. Sorry just being honest...
Reply:This is a really good idea however you may not be able to keep your weekend job as well so it may be worth checking if you can work evenings instead. Go and see your bank manager with a sound business plan. If you have difficulties in setting one up check out the website below, but also keep in mind the possibilities for expanding e.g. hand crafted jewellery. so you could sell products in a package e.g. flowers, necklace, earrings and card!
Reply:Clinton Cards and the party shop do a similar thing baring the cake .People are not orientated to getting a cake with their cards under the same roof . If you could come up with a tailor made service at a price people are willing to pay then I reckon you could make a go of it . Why not produce a menu of what you can provide and do it door to door and see how it goes
Reply:There is only one thing annoying about getting ready for someones birthday, wedding, christening etc and that is traipsing round several shops buying the card, cake, decorations and flowers. Of course this is a good idea! All of it in one place, do you know how much if a time saver that sounds!? I hope this works out for you and your fiance's sister, go for it!! x
Reply:It depends on the competition. Say you have clintons in the same area or another similar store, there is no possible way you can compete on a massive scale, so like you said: selling everything, would be a bad idea. This means you should go for a niche market, say for example selling one product but with lots of variations to it as there are more profits to be made that way.

Whereas if there is little or no competition you should by all means go for tryin to sell a much larger range of prouducts as there are more profits to be made
Reply:That's a good idea - a "one-stop". You should tap into the market quite well.

One small piece of advice: you need to do a little work on your spelling, as you may be writing cards to go with the flowers, if you take orders over the phone.

Good luck!
Reply:Getting into cards is certainly a good idea. Even if there's a recession, people may dumb down on the present but they always buy a card, and possibly buy a better one because it helps their conscience about the present.
Reply:i think it is a very good ideal.but you must have a very good product.has for the weekend job thats touch and go.good luck.
Reply:yes it sounds good

but you need to look at the area where you plan to open the shop and look to see how many, cards, birthday cakes, balloons and flowers shop there is... will be a good idea or will you be just another shop....

start think of names and this could be important some thing catchy and funny would be good... and look at how shops in the area fitted out... you want to entice people through the door, but not say we are cheep and provide a crap service or we are too expensive so exclude 90%of the areas population,,,. this something you will need to look at... the population of the area and how much disposable income they have for this type of business

i wish you all the luck in the world....

hi ive found a great job id like to apply for as a fundraiser for a local childrens hospice... and would like some examples of wording to describe skills knowledge and experience etc required... the personal spec specifys previous experience of fundraising as essential... but the only experience of this was at school (over 15years ago) organised a collection for the guide dog association... so i need some good blags! any ideas? my previous job was based in an older persons hospital and the community as a rehabilitation assistant alongside the occupational therapists and physios... before that i was a florist... and at mo im a full time mum... i just want to be able to get some ideas please to word this application as best i can and to get this job as i know id be good at it if i get the chance to do it and i can not take much more of cbeebies which is slowly driving me mad!!!!! many thanks for any advice

Please help with my application form for community fundraiser?

They don't sell anything, but they really have great advice on how to make more money with any type of fundraising event, product sale, raffle, yard sale, car wash, donation request, or fundraiser.
Reply:It's going to be hard to blag this without actually lying! There is a lot of competition for these jobs and someone else will always have more experience than you. All I can suggest is that you give a lot of detail about the school fundraising you did and be vague about how long ago it was.

Why don't you volunteer to do some fundraising for some other orgs and get the experience to enable you to apply for a paid job?

Calling all Brides #2-ordering fresh bouquets from the Internet?

Okay, so most of you would not want to take the risk of ordering your flowers online due to the fear of damage in shipping. BUT! What if they arrived with a spill proof water supply attached and contained in a temp. regulated container? And to furthermore rest your worries, what if the business offered to replace the bouquet, if damaged in shipping, through another florist in your local area?

Of course shipping time would have to coordinate with your wedding time. If you get married at 8am on Saturday morning, your bouquet would be scheduled to arrive on Friday afternoon. Since some flowers are just to delicate to ship at all, the bouquete styles to choose from would containe very hardy flowers that have a longer shelf life and have year round availability. This would increase the chances that other florist in your local area would be able to fill the order quickly and easily if something did go wrong and the flowers were damaged.

I really appreciate your input!

Calling all Brides #2-ordering fresh bouquets from the Internet?
Sounds just ok. I mean great if they are damaged they are replaced but thats almost like a "yeah they better be"--I mean if my dress was damaged when I ordered it, they would replace that too. If it happens in shipping that is your responsibility to fix, not some amazing new thing you are doing for customers.

And it actually doesn't address the original problem--most wouldn't order flowers online b/c it might be damanged in shipping. Flowers can be in a temp reguated container and still damaged. If there is a problem, the other florist fixes it. Well why didn't I order from that florist to begin with? and what if we have different definitions of "damaged". I say 40% of my flowers are wilted and you say The blooms are still on aren't they?

But me personally--I wouldn't order flowers from a florist online b/c I have a theme I am going for. I show the florist pictures of my idea, either from a magazine or whatever. For my wedding, I carried pictures of my dress and my bridesmaid's dress. I had a few ideas but needed some suggestions on how to make that work. I needed that moment of clarity where the florist shares my vision and knows what I want to complete my theme. I like to make eye contact but most importantly I want to have someone to talk to where I know we are on the same pg.

An online florist I have to know exactly what I want so I can order it, how I want it arranged, and pick from the choices. I have no ability to be unique and add something that is particular (my bouquet I added some crystals and pearls that my mother had made into flowers). What if I want it a lil smaller? And lets say this bouquet is a tad too expensive for my tight budget, I can't subsitute in a cheaper flower?

Online florist just seem like a bad idea all around if you actually care about your flowers. Now if you are just roses to snip and use as boutineers--then sure. Or if all you want is a giant sunflower for each table b/c you are going to float it in a bowl of water, sure. But not for my bouquet or my major arrangements.

I want a florist I can bond with--the same way I wanted to make sure my cake baker and my photographer were all on board with exactly what I want. Not a computer form or someone in India who couldn't care less if I was happy or not.
Reply:I still would not risk it.

Getting damaged all %26amp; that is possible, that's why they have that safety net. But do you really want to, on your wedding day, worry about getting ahold of a company %26amp; having them contact a florist to remake your flowers? What if you order flowers that their local florist doesn't keep in stock in the numbers you need or the colors you need or are out of due to another event?

I just find it way too risky. I'm not sure why you like this idea so much (not trying to be rude), but if it has something to do cost check with a local florist first. My florist was fabulous, she's making more expensive items for less for me due to ordering to much. I think you should look into other options before jumping into ordering online.
Reply:If this is something you are considering, I've got some input. #1, some brides will never order from you. #2, brides who have ordered their flowers online probably would order from you. It's ok if it costs a little more, but it should be a lot less than ordering from a florist. It would be kind of like the cream of the crop for online ordering and perhaps even set a new standard. #3, the type of brides who would order from you are probably planning their wedding in a hurry or at the end of the year because that is when most florists are closed (at least around here they are). You might consider some sort of referral links to other reputable online wedding services. You may even be able to help fund the site with reciprocating agreements. But definitely check out the partners before you post. The better their references, the more referrals you may get from their site. #4, set up a booth at every bridal fair you can find. Have them shipped on the same time-schedule you would ship for a wedding and have a laptop so brides could register their email addresses for sales notices.

Well, that's what I got for you now. Good Luck!
Reply:i would not risk online orders for my wedding flowers. It just too stressful for me, and flower is my #1priority to be on time for picture taking on my wedding day morning.
Reply:I would only buy from you if I had other people who have used your service. It would be hard to rely on someone for your wedding who you do not know or have never used. I would also wnat a great price.
Reply:Lots of Bride's have ordered their flowers from on line sites and have had no problems. Make sure that the site you choose is reputable and has positive reviews from other Bride's. All sites have contact numbers so you can call and talk to them. Don't be afraid to ask them the same questions and concerns you asked here on Yahoo.

What do you think of Saudi Arabia banning the color red?

Saudi Arabia has asked florists and gift shops to remove all red items until after Valentine's Day, calling the celebration of such a holiday a sin, local media reported Monday.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/02/1...

What do you think of Saudi Arabia banning the color red?
we had a very interesting question just on that today..!! i think its nuts and so unfair on the women...they should feel alittle pampered tooo for once....i dont think celebrating valentines would take or add to anyones culture or religion..its just a day to love and be loved...whats so wrong about that!!

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Reply:The average Saudi Arabian has no say what so ever in their own country . They are too scared to do anything to get rid of the ruling Royal family . So they conform told when,where and what to do in their daily lives.How humiliating and boring life must be .
Reply:I think that this is not of your business.

Let me ask you a question

We have a holiday called "Aladha". In this holiday we usually bring sheep to our yards and slaughter the sheep.

Will Americans accept this?

NO!!

This is a cultural difference.

We don't celebrate Valentines day..
Reply:Honestly, I do not waste a thought of it. Valentine's day is an American thing. If Americans need a special day to show their love to somebody, well.................

I much more apreciate it if my husband shows his love to me every day.

Btw: in the West it is comon that boy- and girl friends exchange cards, flowers and gifts. These kind of relationships you will not find in a strict Islamic country. What is the purpose for intertrucing it?

If you would be a cosmopilitian person, you also would recognize that "Valentine" is also critizied in India (not by Muslims). Why did you pick KSA?

Salam.

edit oh, honey: since when Valentine's is a Christian holiday???????????

Bein an Expat working in KSA, are you not getting Islamic holidays off without being a Muslim?
Reply:yes, I actually asked a question about that myself this morning. it's so sad!
Reply:a little over board.

banning a colour,

ban the holiday not a colour,

and what about pink, shouldn't that be banned too,

and little stuffed bears and other animals, and candy and other such stuff.

the holiday itself should be what's banned not one colour assosiated with it. (not that i agree with the banning, but understand why)

i didn't get to read the artical, for what ever reason i couldn't get the site to come up, i really think it is just me, the computer i am using is weird.
Reply:I think it is a ridiculous waste of time and attention. The more they try to control people the more people will obsess on the forbidden.

It is a sad state of affairs. There are starving kids , health problems and all sorts of important issues and they focus on the moral effects of the color red.
Reply:When in Rome,

do as the Romans.

The same applies here.
Reply:Banning red is only until after Valentine's Day. It is to encourage Muslims everywhere to not participate in a pagan holiday.

~~

This is from a blog by Alan Stewart Carl, but it is a clip from a CNN report.

It’s an attempt to squash Valentine’s day celebrations. Sheikh Khaled Al-Dossari, a scholar in Islamic studies, told the Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper:

"As Muslims we shouldn't celebrate a non-Muslim celebration, especially this one that encourages immoral relations between unmarried men and women, ".

And don’t forget it encourages the consuming of nasty little candy hearts and stale chocolate. And flora-cide –- Valentine’s day is the leading cause of flower murder in the world. I don’t know why we all don’t ban it. In fact, I know a lot of American men who would be just fine with such a regulation.

~~~~
I think -- no big deal.
Reply:it is normal for a conservative islamic country not to allow celebrating a christian holy day.it is sad for the foreigners and also for the saudi women ,who just open their eyes and seen the western life,and they like it.......
the saudi shouldn't complain.they got use to it.as i said,is normal
banning all things red coloured,doesn't make a big difference,actually.ppl who are in love or,just like someone,will find a solution...other colour!the favorite,one!
btw :h ...i am not an expatriate.i don't care much about holydays.but i agree with the customs in saudi.i don't complain as a foreigner
Can you suggest what type of flowers i should send to my 11 year old cousin's funeral?
I don't know whether to send something that the family can take home or what.
I would like to buy something for a child but so far the local florists websites (Haven't got to go to town yet) shows nothing for a child's funeral.
(My 11 year old cousin was killed Monday in a car accident)
Thanks
Can you suggest what type of flowers i should send to my 11 year old cousin's funeral?
Sorry to hear about your loose...it must be hard, especially for a young girl.
I would send something to the house, like a basket of fuit, cracker, cheese, etc. So many people send flowers that they go to waste, a food basket is something they can use.
Good bless to you and your family.
Reply:I actually asked a question here last night.
MY daughter's half brother (6) was killed suddenly earlier this week (drowning). I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to send flowers since the children never knew each other (deadbeat dad to both of them).
I decided that since he was so young, his mother likely didn't have life insurance on him. Instead, I sent a fifty dollar payment towards his funeral expenses to the funeral home handling his family and signed the payment from my daughter (his sister). A little help is far more practical than flowers in these times.
Just a suggestion.
Reply:I like the idea about sending money or a fruit basket, that will probably be more help than flowers but if you choice to go with flowers talk to some people and find out what the colors they choice to go with on the casket, or go to this web site... www.order-flowers-delivery.com/funeral-f... They have pretty idea's that you might be able to have them make up at your local flower store, or it will give you cute ideas that you could mix together. Good luck and Sorry, prayers with the family.
Reply:first of all im sorry to hear that and second of all some white roses i think
Reply:the best flowers to send are red for love and white for peace and harmony, i also know what it is like to loose someone so young and close my girl friend lost her son 3days before he was 8months old due to a syndrome that is very rare.
Reply:You could send a peace lily. My dad passed away 5 years ago and I still have the one from his funeral.
Reply:My condolences. That is absolutely tragic. Was your cousin a boy or a girl? If a girl, I would suggest some pretty pale pink flowers (depending what is in season in your country) and if a boy, I would choose something with pale yellow or white. Something pretty and gentle.
You may want to look into donating a sum of money into a charity for children in your cousin's name - his or her parents would appreciate the gesture.
I am very sorry for your terrible loss. x
What can I buy my mum for mothers day? She lives so far away, it wont get there in time if I post it today.?
I would like to get something delivered from a local business near her, but I don't know any. I know florists will deliver flowers and chocolates if I get stuck, but can anyone think of anything else? Thanks
Use the internet to look up a spa near her house. Call that spa and get a gift certificate, then have them mail it to her house.
Reply:you can order online from neiman marcus or saks or nordstrom or amazon, they also have next day shipment. Check it out.
Reply:I'd go for the flowers; a nice phone call would be a good thing as well.
Reply:A visit to a day spa in her area for some pampering...
Reply:Singing telegram? Or, better yet, a strip-o-gram! I'd like a strip-o-gram for Mother's Day. Although, I'm pretty sure I'm getting a bird watchers field guide. Yeah.
A friendly phone call to discuss what treat she would like might be a good idea.
"Hi mum happy mothers day! I have x amount of dollars to spend on you, what would you like?"
You could arrange to do dinner or something nice next time you are nearer to her and available if that is ever going to happen. Going out for a nice dinner is usually nice.
Reply:Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.
This is a really beautiful poem too!
Women have strengths that amaze us.
They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.
I display goods on pavement outside my shop council says no. other local businesses threatened too. Help?
Council is quoting Disabilities discrimination act 1995 and Highways act 1980 but pavements are not blocked as they are wider than average. YOu can definitely get wheelchairs/double buggies passed. I have a furniture shop, there is a florist, a fruit %26amp; veg shop, 2 lovely cafes. In all twenty small independant shops. A vibrant shopping area Please help
I display goods on pavement outside my shop council says no. other local businesses threatened too. Help?
Nevertheless the pavement is not your property and you have no rights to display your goods there. The same applies to the other shops in your parade.Some shops in some areas do have private forecourts where they can display their wares, but these are usually clearly marked, and the council is not responsible for the upkeep or maintenance of private fronts. It is not only wheelchairs and buggies that are affected but also blind and poorly sighted people who could stumble over goods on the pavement. You are expected to trade from the interior of your premises.The council is absolutely correct.
Reply:Measure the sidewalk space- with and without vendor stuff.
The typical ADA sidewalk would be 6'6" (78") wide at a minimum to allow a small amount of 2-way traffic when a wheelchair is involved, and 10' is recommended where there is a likelihood of congestion or other conditions occur. There are a THOUSAND other issues involved in proper sidewalk planning as well.
The issue is not 'can get past', but 'can get past safely for the chair user, other people, and other stuff in the area. Many wheelchairs are not real manueverable.
I'd bet the sidewalks passed inspection WITHOUT the booths, etc., but will fail with them- you don't usually build super wide sidewalks without a good reason because of the cost.
Reply:Sorry the council is right.
Usually they don't care as long as everyone uses common sense regarding access, but some new jobsworth is probably trying to make his mark,
OR
possibly a council somewhere in the country has had a claim against them from one of the ambulance chasing lawyers and an "obstruction of the pavement" precedent has now been set which will result in 100's of spurious claims.
These type of low life Lawyers know there is big insurance company behind the council who will pay up rather than take it to court.
Technically the pavement is public property and you cannot put your wares or signs on it. The fact that people may have plenty of room does not matter.
Reply:Good, the pavements are for pedestrians not to expand your shop floor space, when you are in a wheelchair and you have to guide around all these obstacles then perhaps your attitude would change.
What do you think of this idea for my boyfriend for valentine's day?
He is a BIG mountain dew freak, like it is the only thing he DRINKS. So, I called a local florist, and asked them if I brought an empty two liter mountain dew bottle there, if they could put like bright yellow and green or whatever flowers/leaves in it and deliver it on V-Day... maybe with some reeses cups and whatever.. What do you guys think?
What do you think of this idea for my boyfriend for valentine's day?
cool and funny idea i like it
Reply:What if you made him a candy boquet instead. I am not sure how many guys like getting flowers...plus flowers die pretty quickly...so this would be more beneficial, moneywise.
"You're always on my mind."
Definitely sign your name.
Has anyone used publix for their wedding flowers?
I'm on a tight budget and Publix said they can do my centerpieces at half of the local florist. However I don't know if they will be as good of quality. Anyone ever use them for their flowers or been to a wedding that did? I'm using hydrangas and roses in baskets for a casual look, that should be easy enough for them right? My bouquet is also going for a fun casual look...so I don't think it will be to difficult, but I don't know if I can trust them to do as good of a job....any help would be great
Has anyone used publix for their wedding flowers?
We dont have publix, but I have used our local grocery store for flowers for big parties many times. They have been absolutely outstanding. Most recently I used them for the centerpieces for my BF's bridal shower. The greatest thing about it was that I went in there with these silver pails and said "Can you do the arrangements in these?", there was no argument or additional fee for using my own equipment, each piece cost me $10 and looked amazing and were much bigger and better than I would have ever imagined they would be for that price. When her mother asked me about them I told her they were done at Shop Rite and she couldnt believe it, she thought I was pulling her leg and had to show her the receipt to prove it to her. As I was there one day I paged through their wedding albums too, they were really, really nice bouquettes, boutineres and centerpieces. Dont let the "stigma" associated with the grocery store turn you off, you will get the same quality (in my case better quality I think) at a much better bargain.
Good luck!
Reply:Hi and congratulations!
Good for you for staying within a budget! I don't have a Publix by me, but I have been to Florida lots, and have shopped there. I would not hesitate for ONE MINUTE to go ahead with this idea. I am always encouraging brides on a budget to go to a florist in a grocery store. They ARE trained floral designers! Did you ask to see pictures of their work from other weddings? If not, and you want to....go back in and ask to see pictures. I think they will do a nice job. Also....do you know they have GREAT cakes! Perhaps you can even get more of a discount if you order 2 "wedding services" ....cake and flowers. Check it out!
Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful wedding!
Reply:My friends used Shaws (another grocery store chain) for their flowers--and they looked fantastic. I had no idea that was who did their flowers until they told me while I was planning my own wedding. If floral arrangements weren't already included in my contract with the reception hall, I'd definitely get my flowers from a grocery store.
Reply:I have never used them for floral jobs, but I have bought flowers from them and have always had great quality from them...they usually last for some time. If your publix has a full service floral area...go for it. I have never had any complaints on using them for other areas (like platters from the deli or bakery)
Mixing real and silk flowers?
I posted this in the wrong place the first time lol.
I decided to do silk bouquets and bouts, since I found really pretty flowers on a great sale. They turned out nicely!
But I think I would struggle a lot more with making corsages. The nice looking silk corsages that I have found seem to be the same price as it would be to have them made by my local florist. If I have silk bouquets but real corsages will I really even notice a difference between the real and fake flowers in pictures? Thanks :)
Mixing real and silk flowers?
At my best friend's wedding, her bouquet was real and mine and the other bridesmaids had silk bouquets. You can't tell the difference at all in the pictures, plus it made a really cool keepsake for the wedding party!
Reply:Truly, in my photos, you cannot tell which were the fake and which were the real flowers. Nobody had anything to say about the real vs the fake flowers.
Reply:I'm doing the flowers for our daughter's wedding, and the corsages are not hard at all. You can google it and find video's on corsages, bouttonierres, and bouquets too. They might show fresh flowers, but you can apply the same techniques to silk, with slight modifications.
Why not try doing a couple of corsages and see how they turn out. You don't need that many and a little practice will probably be all you need. Just use Google image to find lots of pictures of corsages and see what you like. Then simplify it and give it a try.
PS. I'm not a florist and had no experience with it at all. My daughter says they turned out so well that I should be doing it to make some money at home. Just try it, I think you'll find that you can do it!
Fresh flowers do wilt and anything that is white or cream or a pale colour will wilt and go brown even faster. If you stick with silk, you'll have a more consistent look to your wedding and the photos will look better. Brown or wilting "fresh" flowers next to fresh looking silk would not be good!
Reply:It depends on the lighting and aperture setting of the photography. From a distance, most people won't be able to tell real from silk flowers, even in naked eyes. They are so well made.
Close-up pictures are a different matter. One thing that even the best "silk" flowers can't achieve is to hide their distinctive refractions (most "silk" flowers are made of polyester fabrics).
So you might want to ask your photographer to make sure that your silk bouquet would look real in the picture. Proper ambient light and a slightly larger aperture setting (to slightly blur the bouquet) shoud do the trick. And of course a lot of photoshop editting.
Reply:not if your silks are nice, we did alot of silks for my wedding and a few things fresh and many of our guest thought that everything was fresh.
Reply:silk will last longer
How many flowers in a bouqet??
I am getting married in February and have decided I want white roses and white lisianthus for my bouqet (thanks to many of you who helped me with my question : ))
I only have my sister as my maid of honor and thats it, so Im wondering, how many roses/lisianthus do I need for my bouqet, and how many for my sisters? (hers should be a little smaller, right?)
If any of you can tell me a range (20-25? etc) that would be great. I am really considering doing them myself as they are the only two bouqets, and having a local florist do the boutineers and corsages, so I will save some money.
Im going to start calling florists in my area and asking them for a price quote for just the bouts and corsages and then one that includes the bouqets to see what it will cost me, I just thought it would be helpful for me to be able to say " I want a hand-tied bouqet of 15 roses and 10 lisianthus" so that I can get a better quote without having to travel from store to store.
How many flowers in a bouqet??
If you're slim, then 15 roses and 10 lizzies will be overwhelming. I think I had about 8-10 roses and 5 lisianthus in my bouquet. I'm also slim (size 1) so a bigger bouquet would look a bit silly and be too heavy.
Reply:I dont know, but the bouquet should be in balance with your body type (height and weight) and your dress type (big and decorative or slim and simple). You dont want it to be too small, or too big for your overall look.
Reply:We did our own flowers for our wedding. I used approximately 35 small calla lilies for my bouquet and approximately 20 for the other bouquet I made. We also made 5 large centerpieces and 10 boutonnieres ourselves. It was actually much easier than I thought it would be. This site (http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.ht... really helped me with my flowers. I ordered approximately 250 flowers for my wedding and it ended up being about $200 (including shipping). I used www.theflowerexchange.com which I could not have been happier with. The flowers showed up in perfect condition, right on time. They were inexpensive and beautiful. Plus they lasted over 2 weeks. I was so impressed I ordered a bunch of flowers for our Thanksgiving celebration. I cannot say enough good stuff about them.
Good luck!
Reply:Well I based my bouquet on two factors - the style of my dress and how much I wanted to hold.
My dress was very simple so I wanted a small bouquet - I'd been in a wedding party before where I had to carry an extremely heavy bouquet and it was awkward and uncomfortable throughout the wedding. So mine consisted of 7 roses. My aunt was my maid of honor and she carried 5 roses, and my junior bridesmaid carried 3 roses. For us, it was simply perfect.
PS My dress was from Demetrios Bridal too :)
Reply:Girl, I found out that Costco (I hope you have one in your area) does wedding flowers. They have a small package (9 pieces) for like $229 and they're beautiful. I'm going to use them for my wedding in May. You get:
1 Bridal bouquet (25 roses)
2 Brides Maid bouquets (18 roses per bouquet)
2 Corsages
4 Attendant boutonnieres
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.asp...
Good Luck!
Reply:if your are speaking to florists, just come up with how large you would like it to be. bowling ball sized, salad plate sized, or just a diameter, they will know approximately how many flowers to put in it.
I am having 17 calla lilies in my bouquet, my girls are carrying 6 roses, 2 callas.
Reply:I am pretty sure my florist said mine will have 17...or is it 14...anyway, some where around there. Mine will be just roses, no other flowers or greenery.
Reply:look at flower arrangement photos this will give you a better insight into what your looking for
Reply:Id have to say the typical number of flowers in a boquet is 12 or 6
Reply:I think i might have between 6-8 flowers in my bouquet maybe more but I have alot of ivy in it too to fill....my girls are just going to have plan roses
Do you Love Flowers? Especially Roses? You'll enjoy this!?
This woman and her husband have this really bad fight. He goes off to work the next day without talking to her, but she doesn't care.
She's busy doing her thing around the house. All of the sudden, around 1:00 in the afternoon, the doorbell rings. She goes to the door and opens it and there is a young delivery guy from the local florist shop with an enormous, beautiful bouquet of long-stemmed red roses...the expensive ones...from her husband.
She says to the delivery guy with disgust, "Oh CRAP!"
The delivery guy says, "What's a matter lady? You don't like roses?"
She replies, "Yeah, I like roses, but do you know what this means?"
He says, "No, Lady, what does this mean?"
She answers, "It means for the next two weeks I'll be laying on my back with my legs in the air."
He replies, "Geez, Lady, don't you have a vase?"
Do you Love Flowers? Especially Roses? You'll enjoy this!?
That is awesome! I love roses, but even I wouldn't keep them there just to save them....they have thorns!!!!
Reply:love it :) :) :)
Reply:Good joke!!
How much ??
I think not more than $49.99
Reply:Well, I live in Michigan and I called a place to get a daisy, gerber daisy., and rose bouquet (only like 6 gerber daisies and about 6 roses) and they told me 80-100.
Do you think she is hot & sexy? Get ready to Laugh!?
This woman and her husband have this really bad fight. He goes off to work the next day without talking to her, but she doesn't care.
She's busy doing her thing around the house. All of the sudden, around 1:00 in the afternoon, the doorbell rings. She goes to the door and opens it and there is a young delivery guy from the local florist shop with an enormous, beautiful bouquet of long-stemmed red roses...the expensive ones...from her husband.
She says to the delivery guy with disgust, "Oh CRAP!"
The delivery guy says, "What's a matter lady? You don't like roses?"
She replies, "Yeah, I like roses, but do you know what this means?"
He says, "No, Lady, what does this mean?"
She answers, "It means for the next two weeks I'll be laying on my back with my legs in the air."
He replies, "Geez, Lady, don't you have a vase?"
Hotel Receptionist, UK?
Sister is asking this ...
Hiya,
I am 16, just finished school and looking for somewhere to work.
I either wanted to work in a florist or in a hotel as a receptionist. There are no local florists but there are lots of hotels in the city centre.
Using Google Maps I have drawn up a list of all hotels in the area and I'm going through each website, but some of them don't have a 'careers' section.
Can I still phone the booking number and ask if they have any vacancies?
Also, what is expected of a hotel receptionist?
Are the hours flexible as I'll be starting sixth form as of September but would like to continue working to pay my own way through life.
Thanks for any help.
Hotel Receptionist, UK?
Hotel receptionist well normally there are 3 shifts 7-3, 3-11, 11-7 ish!! the work itself is very front facing customer service, but dont be surprised if you get asked to help,out on housekeeping or other parts of hotel work to, It can be quite demanding sometimes but if you like dealing with people and talking you should do fine, Flexiblity depends on the employer, really you can expect to work on a 5 over 7 basis.
Reply:I think you can be a good hotel receptionist, If you are interested, you can just walk in into any good hotel in the city for an interview if there is any vacancy there. During the interview you can ask the interviewer all those questions you want to ask. Good Luck.
Reply:The best thing for you would probably be for you to print off your CV and hand them in at the hotel receptions with a covering letter saying you want to work there and why.
You need to have good person skills, be able to talk clearly, be confident on the phone etc etc etc
Reply:You need to ask to speak to their personnel or HR department I would guess, especially if it is part of a large group of hotels. If you want to get some experience, then offer to do some work shadowing members of staff - this may be a good way to get in. . .
Reply:an old friend was once a hotel receptionist a few years ago - i would say definately just call the hotel or pop in and ask if they have any vacancies - you dont know unless you ask! the worst they can do is say no, and you can always ask to leave your contact details so they can call you should a vacancy come up.
my friend used to work LONG hours and started VERY early in the morning - but if you are going to school and want to work part time then im sure if they want to hire you then they will compromise on the hours.
you would have to be good with people and have excellent customer service type skills. you would always have to have a smile on your face to welcome guests! oh and have a good telephone manner, and good organisational skills.
good luck!
Promised Jokes?
John got off the elevator on the 50th floor and nervously knocked on his blind date's door. She opened it and was as beautiful and charming as everyone had said.
"I'll be ready in a few minutes," she said. "Why don't you play with Spot, my dog, while you're waiting?" He does wonderful tricks. He rolls over, shakes hands, sits up and if you make a hoop with your arms, he'll jump through."
The dog followed John onto the balcony and started rolling over. John made a hoop with his arms and Spot jumped through--over the balcony railing. Just then John's date walked out.
"Isn't Spot the cutest, happiest dog you've ever seen?"
"To tell the the truth, " he replied, "Spot seemed a little depressed to me!"
A fellow was very much in love with a beautiful girl. One day she told him that the next day was her birthday. He told her he would send her a bouquet of roses... one for each year of her life.
That evening he called the local florist and ordered twenty-one roses with instructions that they be delivered first thing the next morning.
As the florist was preparing the order, he decided that since the young man was such a good customer, he would put an extra dozen roses in the bouquet.
The fellow never did find out what made the young girl so angry with him
A little bird was flying through the rainforest when it heard something calling out. It flew down and found an elephant stuck in a mud hole. Hello Mr Elephant can I help? No but go and gat the King o the jungle Mr Lion. Off the bird went and found him at home. Told him the problem so he got his Porsche from the garage and a tow rope and followed the bird to the elephant on pulled him out. The elephant was so grateful that he told him he was now his buddy and anytime he was in trouble he could call on him. …………And the months rolled by until one day the elephant was walking through the forest and he could hear a cry for help. Sounds like my buddy he thought. He found him in the same mud hole! Go get Mr Lion said the bird. Off went the elephant, crashing through the forest to the lion’s house. Knocked on the door, no answer, rushed to Mr Rhino’s house and was told Mr Lion had gone on holiday just that morning. Panic set in, he rushed to see the little bird who had now sunk up to his wing-pits. Little bird sorry Mr Lion was not in. I’ll have to get you out myself. With that he reversed up to the hole and stuck his tail out, but the bird couldn’t reach it. He tried with his trunk, still couldn’t reach. Oh no he thought but then I am a bull elephant with one other very large appendage and with that he pushed it out as far as he could reach. The little bird held on tightly with its beak and was pulled out! ……………….
And the moral of the story is if you’ve got a c**k like an elephant you don’t need a Porsche to pull a bird!!!!
Anyone ever bought one of those 5 or 6 foot outdoor signs that say "It's a boy or it's a girl. ???
Just wondering how much they cost. I made a really nice one for a local florist but am not sure what the going rate is.
Anyone ever bought one of those 5 or 6 foot outdoor signs that say "It's a boy or it's a girl. ???
I wanted to get one, but we decided not to let every child molester and baby thief in the area know we were there.
Reply:go to a local florist and ask them what they charge for selling one.
then you will know
that is what I would do, anyway
Reply:I believe you rent them, however, I recently read an article about them. They are discouraged because it's basically announcing to kidnappers or crazy people that you have a new baby in the house.
Accounting Class - Need Help =D?
You are reviewing the year-end financial statements of a small ($2 mil. revenues) company that has applied for a long-term loan from the bank. u note as you begin that a principal stockholder is your former college roommate. You are preparing your report %26amp; wonder about the following:
b. You have been working at the bookkeeper’s desk while she is on vacation. You pushed the desk blotter aside at one point %26amp; notice underneath it a bill to the company from a local florist for $55. The bill is dated December, but you do not see it recorded anywhere in the company’s books. A number of other unopened envelopes are under the blotter, the contents of which cannot be judged from the outside.
Should these items be disclosed in your report? Why? If you disclose, how should your disclosure be phrased? Should you disclose this to the company, to your employer, or in your report? Should the audit have been conducted differently? Keep in mind some fundamental qualitative principles
Accounting Class - Need Help =D?
If those ledgers and journals are closed out, and the bill has not yet been paid; you can add it to the January statement.
When you start doing things you "feel/think" are right, that's when the books start getting messed up.
For all you know, the company may not have even received the flowers yet. If that is the case, then that is not yet an "asset."
Don't forget about fiscal years either.
Of course, I would call the bookkeeper and ask what's up with this bill.
A flower company is usually a monthly bill anyway, much like the landscaping company that cuts the grass outside.
Anyone Use ProFlowers?
I did and it was a joke! Flowers were supposed to be delivered on Thursday and didn't arrive till Monday. To top it off, they were completely dead. I called on Friday and got my money back. They tried to tell me I could only have a partial credit. I told them that the flowers would be 100% dead when they would arrive, if they ever would arrive. So they gave me all my money back.
They shipped using FedEx and were scheduled for Thursday. When they didn't arrive, I called on Friday morning. I was told that the truck had too many deliveries and they couldn't get to mine, but since they were left over from the previous day they would be the first to be delivered. Wrong! they didn't come till Monday and of course they were completely dead.
I'll never use ProFlowers again. I'll call a local florist or 1800flowers.com
Yahoo; Are you going to delete this post too?
Anyone Use ProFlowers?
I did and I never will again. Mine were frozen and went bad.
Reply:sorry nto sure
Reply:I dont think it was pro flowers fault though- I have had delays with fedex. They should not accept shipment if they cannot deliver as promised. I have had good flowers delivered with pro flowers although the person who orders always does it early so there is no rush-so I guess that is the secret?
Reply:I've never used them, but definitely won't now!! I'm sorry that you had such a terrible experience, but you're lucky they gave you your money back. I hope it didn't ruin your day!!
Reply:I bought from them for Mother's Day and got 2 dozen roses for my mom. She got them on Friday (I had chosen them to be delivered either Thursday or Friday) and they arrived beautifully. My mom said they died by Sunday or Monday. She called ProFlowers and they said that they would replace them and they did - with flowers that actually lived.
Part of the problem for you was FedEx. They are absolutely horrible becuse we've used them for mailing stuff and they always are delayed - claiming it is out of their control. One time made sense - it was when that tropical storm was in Florida, but this most recent time makes no sense. FedEx is who you should be more upset with.
Reply:We had a awkward experience but I think it had more to do with the delivery guy. It was for Mother's Day and he left them at the wrong house and left them on the uncovered porch (of the wrong house) in pouring rain. We called them and they said the flowers had been delivered and wouldn't refund since they had been signed for. A few days later the person returned home from vacation, recognized the name, and brought them to our mom. They were african violets so totally dead. We called them again and they were really good about it and sent her a brand new batch the next day and refunded part of our money.
Reply:I think local flowers are better. I have worked in a nursing home, and some people long distance sent their mother pro flowers, and some called the florists here. The florists here had prettier flowers and arrangements.
Reply:I agree, worst flower company ever. Roses looked horrible upon arrival and they died in two days. I get better flowers for cheaper from the local grocery store!!!
Bad Breath
Troubles with job?
okay so, i work at a local florist. one of those places that has been around for years and years. ive been working there for 2 months and i constantly make mistakes! there are so many little things that no one has taken the time to tell me about. i constantly get yelled at for making mistakes on orders and other things like that. fine okay i make mistakes but it would be nice to be told what to do. my bosses are over 70 and they dont care about being nice anymore. she is a moody old woman and i dont know what to do. one minute she is yelling at me the other she is smiling at me. i feel tossed around. any ideas? (im 18)
Troubles with job?
There are two things you can do. First, be frank and honest with your boss, tell her that you want to do a good job, but need her help in order to get there. You want to know how they want you to do the job and take notes. This may or may not work. The collective knowledge is stored in the bosses head and since your new, they don't know what you don't. They also sound like they do not know how to train.
Second thing to do is to start looking for another job-Good luck
Reply:First talk to your boss, tell them how you feel and what you need to do a better job. If they listen and help good, stay there. If not, start looking for a new job.
Reply:yes find another job! Get a resume together and go to other florist shops with better bosses. Also do you ask for help if you are not sure of something.
Reply:look for a different job or ask for more training
Prom flowers?
I saw a picture of a corsage in the latest issue of seventeen prom. It was an orchid corsage, but instead of the flowers just being bundled up on top, they went all the way around the wrist like a bracelet. Can anyone tell me where I can find a picture of a corsage like this so I can take it to my local florist?
Prom flowers?
There are orchid wrislets on the bottom of this page
Reply:I don't know if any of these are exactly what you are looking for but here is a florist link:
Reply:Your local florist is gonna be pissed!!!
Reply:it sounds really basic just tell her u want an orchid bracelet select the bloom and its that simple no?
Reply:buy this issue of seventeen prom, cut out that picture, and take it to your local florist.
A guy just spent way too much on an FTD bouquet for me. Should I tell him where to buy flowers in the future?
I'm not complaining, but I don't think this is what he had in mind -- and their prices are pretty steep. If it were you, would you rather go on believing you sent what was in the picture, or have the number of a good local florist? I'd like to get more flowers from him in the future!
A guy just spent way too much on an FTD bouquet for me. Should I tell him where to buy flowers in the future?
it all depends on how you say it.
if you say it as "its the thought that counts, i love them, but i think you got ripped off" yes, you should tell him.
i would just thank him, tell him they are pretty and all that, then say, "anytime you need to send flowers to anyone, i think you will get a better deal here. you should try them next time."
making it clear that YOU are not demanding flowers from somewhere, that you are helping him buy flowers for ANYBODY for ANY reason, makes the difference.
if i sent you what i thought were long stem roses, and you got what looked dead weeds, i would want to know about. or if you knew a florist that had better deals, i would want to know about it.
it would also be nice to know she wants something cheaper, too many keep track of how much the guys spends. if he gets the best flowers for half price, she is insulted.
you could also thank him in person or by phone, then send an email, or just casually mention the better florist when you see him. separate the two issues to make it clear your not complaining.
guys need help, we dont shop. we just see it and buy it.
Reply:Dont say a word about that. Just show gratitude. This is how he is. It is a compliment to you. It is an education as to how he would be if you married him and you may not like that kind of extravagance. To tell him what you propose would be controlling, so that is an education to you about how you want to be in a relationship. So this is why we date, to learn.
Reply:Just sit back and smell the roses ...
Reply:Just thank him for the flowers. I think it would hurt his feelings if you mention them being too expensive.
Reply:Don't tell him it is the thought that counts. He will see it for himself when he gets to your house or office. I think it would just make him feel bad and make you look picky if you said anything. just accept his gift gratefully.
Reply:NO.....that would be tacky...let him do it on his own.....let him find out for himself.......he is a big boy.....
Reply:without mentioning the FTD gift.
Mention that you found these beautiful flowers at this local shop around the corner etc.. or take him there with you. show him what you like....Yes tell him politley
Reply:Thank him profusely! I wouldn’t mention anything about another florist because I think that kind of puts him on the spot. Like you’re expecting more flowers- (well yes, you are but he’s supposed to get that on his own). Guys are pretty smart. If the flowers are hurting his wallet pretty bad- you’d think he’d figure out how to save. Maybe he’d ask his buddies. Is there a buddy you could say something that would get to him in a roundabout way? Don’t think too much about it. Just enjoy them!
Reply:Yes.
Reply:If you want to keep receiving flowers from him, just let him buy flowers for you.
Let him treat you!
I would definitely NOT tell a guy where to order a bouquet for me.
It's sweet that he wants to send you flowers. He probably uses FTD because it's well known.
You telling him exactly what florist to use would possibly hurt his feelings. Try showing him the flowers.
Say "Aren't the flowers you sent to me so beautiful?"
that way he can SEE exactly where his money went. If he says "Oh, I thought it would be bigger..etc.." He'll know to look for or maybe even ask you what florist you use.
I would just let him do things on his own, his own choices.
Maybe that's exactly what he had in mind for you. So assuming he meant bigger etc...may not be a good thing.
If you say "I thought you meant for this bouquet to be bigger
But that is just me.
I like for my man to think/do for himself w/o having to run around behind him saying 'Order my flowers from here.' etc...
If he specifically asks you, then I'd say something...
otherwise, I'd just smile and accept the flowers with excitement and joy!
Reply:Just thank him, and be gracious about it. The next time you are having a conversation, get around to telling him about a good local florist shop that you know, just act like you saw some bouquets they did and they looked really nice, blah, blah, blah. He should get the point.
Reply:i'd tell him.....you sound really considerate and he will most likely be thankful that you were honest with him and that he will not have to empty his wallet again!....good luk
Reply:Tell him !! Also let him know how much you appreciate the flowers, you just didn't want him to waste his money at a bad florist. Maybe walk into a florist with him and comment on how beautiful there flowers always are.
Reply:if u want to get more flowers form him in the future u can just sit back and relax he... on day when ur just sitting there with nothing to do u can simply say WOW those flowers that u got me the other day were abasutly beautiful or when ur outside or at a park and u see flowers u can say those ones are nice and if hes a smart enough of a guy he will get this hint!
